Pope Francis Calls for End to Violence in Gaza

Condemns Israeli Military Attack, Expresses Concern for Palestinian Casualties

Urges Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution

VATICAN CITY, Nov 22 (Reuters) - Pope Francis issued a heartfelt appeal for an end to the violence in Gaza on Wednesday, condemning an Israeli military attack that killed at least 20 Palestinians and expressing concern for the welfare of children affected by the conflict.

Speaking at his weekly General Audience, the pontiff said he was following the situation in the Holy Land with "great concern and sadness".

"I appeal for an immediate end to the bloodshed and violence that is claiming innocent lives," he said.

Pope Francis also called for the protection of children, who are particularly vulnerable during times of conflict.

"I think especially of the children, who are the most vulnerable in this situation," he said.

The pope's appeal comes as Israeli forces continue to carry out airstrikes against Hamas targets in Gaza, in response to rocket fire from the militant group.

The conflict has killed at least 20 Palestinians, including nine children, and injured hundreds more.
