EF4 Tornado Sweeps Away Homes, Bringing Severe Weather to the Region
Keota, Iowa braces for aftermath as deadly tornado leaves a path of destruction.
A severe and tornadic weather system has wreaked havoc across Iowa, leaving a trail of destruction in Keota and surrounding areas. The strongest tornado, a low-end EF4, swept away homes on the west side of Keota, leaving behind a devastating scene of wreckage.
In addition to Keota, reports of hail, damaging winds, and additional tornadoes have emerged from across the region. Trained spotters reported hail up to an inch in Keokuk, while strong thunderstorm winds were measured in Garrison.
The tornado outbreak occurred in conjunction with a high-risk severe weather event, with a level 55 alert issued by the Storm Prediction Center. This is the highest risk level issued in over two years, underscoring the severity of the weather system.
