Andy Murray receives emotional farewell at Wimbledon

Three-time Grand Slam champion plays one of his final matches at the All England Club

It was an emotional night for Andy Murray on Thursday as the three-time Grand Slam champion began his farewell to Wimbledon. The 37-year-old was given a standing ovation by the crowd as he walked out onto Centre Court for his first-round doubles match alongside his brother Jamie.

Murray, who has announced that he will retire from tennis after this year's Wimbledon, was joined in his players' box by his two eldest children, Sophia and Edie. The Scot was visibly emotional during the match, and he shed tears after losing in straight sets to Australians Max Purcell and Matthew Ebden.

"It was a tough match, but I'm proud of the way I played," Murray said afterwards. "I'm just so grateful for the support I've had over the years. It's been an incredible journey." Murray's appearance at Wimbledon was his first since 2017, when he lost in the quarter-finals to Sam Querrey. He has since undergone hip surgery and has been battling a number of injuries.

However, Murray has shown great determination to return to the top level of tennis, and he has been ranked as high as No. 1 in the world. He is currently ranked No. 52, and he is hoping to make a deep run at Wimbledon this year.

"I'm just taking it one day at a time," Murray said. "I'm just trying to enjoy my tennis and see how far I can go." Murray's next match will be on Saturday, when he takes on John Isner in the second round of the singles competition.
