Fortnite Returns to iOS, but Only in Europe
Exclusive Release for EU Players
Four years after Apple pulled Fortnite from the App Store, the popular battle royale game has returned to iOS devices – but only in the European Union (EU).
Epic Games' Rival App
The return of Fortnite to iOS is part of Epic Games' ongoing legal battle with Apple over the latter's App Store policies. Epic launched its own iOS app, the Epic Games Store, in 2020 as a way to bypass Apple's 30% commission on in-app purchases.
Apple claims that the Epic Games Store violates its App Store guidelines and has refused to allow it on its platform. Epic has argued that Apple's App Store is a monopoly and that its policies stifle competition.
The EU has ruled in favor of Epic Games in this case, requiring Apple to allow alternative app stores on iOS devices. As a result, Fortnite is now available on the Epic Games Store for iOS in the EU.
How to Play Fortnite on iOS in the EU
To play Fortnite on iOS in the EU, you will need to:
- Download the Epic Games Store app from the Apple App Store.
- Create an Epic Games account or sign in with an existing account.
- Download and install Fortnite from the Epic Games Store.
Once you have installed Fortnite, you can create a new account or sign in with an existing account. You will then be able to play Fortnite with friends on other platforms, such as PC, Mac, and Android.
What's Next?
It is unclear whether or when Fortnite will return to the App Store in other regions. Apple has appealed the EU ruling, and the legal battle between Epic Games and Apple is ongoing.
