Fortinet Confirms Breach After Hacker Boasts of Data Theft
Fortinet, a leading cybersecurity company, confirmed that it suffered a data breach after a hacker claimed to have stolen sensitive information from the company.
According to a report by Bleeping Computer, the hacker, who goes by the alias "pompompurin," posted a screenshot on a popular hacking forum showing what they claimed to be a list of Fortinet customer data, including names, email addresses, and IP addresses.
Fortinet initially denied the breach, but later confirmed that an investigation had been launched.
The company said in a statement that it is "aware of the claims being made and is currently investigating the matter." Fortinet added that it has "no evidence to suggest that any customer data has been compromised."
However, the hacker provided Bleeping Computer with additional evidence, including a video showing them accessing a Fortinet customer support portal and downloading customer data.
Fortinet has not yet disclosed the full extent of the breach or what data may have been stolen.
The company is urging customers to change their passwords and be on the lookout for phishing emails or other suspicious activity.
The breach is a reminder of the importance of cybersecurity for businesses of all sizes.
Even companies with strong security measures in place can be targeted by hackers. It is important for businesses to have a comprehensive cybersecurity plan in place to protect their data and customers.
